Honestly, I'd walk or ride a bicycle to school. How could bus take 45 minutes if round trip is less than 2 miles? That's how much I used to walk from parking building to the office! If there's thunderstorm or when you need to haul something heavy, call Uber or cab.sigpicComment

Cheap early Honda Fit. get great mileage and there is aftermarket stuff out there for them.
Wife has a newer one with a 5 speed, for a little car it's fun. Much like any 80's Honda, light and cheap to operate.Comment

Just take the $1000 and put it towards maintenance on the E30. You say you don't have a problem with spending 1700 to replace the battery on the toyota? Even better, spend the 2,700 on maintenance on the E30. These cars are neither hard nor that expensive to keep properly maintained.Originally posted by SonnyI am a meme for our community.Comment

Is it really that farfetched? Have you ever lived in Florida? You live in a metro area which I'm sure has amazing public transit.
It takes me:
5 mins to walk to the bus stop
20-30 mins to wait for a bus if I missed it
15 mins travel time
10 mins walk to class
So that's a 30 minute commute if I catch the bus exactly on time. I enjoy taking the bus and would do it more frequently if the they had more frequent stops or at least GPS tracking. When I lived in SF I'd walk or take public transit everywhere. That's just not feasible here, unfortunately.Comment

Besides the paint, it's in excellent shape. I'd like to keep it that way though, and I think daily driving the car such a short distance isn't healthy for the engine or drivetrain.Comment

You might want to just stay in your SUV forever, Miami. Days after a study found that Florida cities dominated the list of America's deadliest for pedestrians (with the Magic City clocking in fourth place), a new report has been released on the most dangerous locales in the U.S. for...
I rode my road bike everywhere for 4 months straight last summer. I don't miss feeling my butthole clench up every time a car's side mirror comes within inches of my elbow. I don't miss having "F4GGOT" or "get the fuck out of the road" yelled at me by some salt life, coal rolling, mushroom tip. I don't miss having my backpack and schoolwork drenched in the daily torrential downpours either.Comment

Is your round trip seriously under 2 miles?? If so, here's something novel....
WALK!
A mile would take what - 15 mins at most.
I'd walk before I spent $2700 on a Prius to reduce mileage on my e30 (I DD my e30 by the way and love it - been doing so for 6 years and it's showing no ill effects).Comment

That's pretty intense! Didn't know Tampa wasn't bike friendly. I still think it'd be better to spend that money towards to E30 (I think short trip would be better than not using the car at all for couple months.. or getting POS to waste money into), but if you insist on getting a beater, I'd get some Honda instead of Prius with huge repair bill.
Speaking of bad weather, this is what we get for 5 months of the winter..
