reading the OP's experience review was quite refreshing.

it's not often you can jump on R3V and read something that's written by somebody with some brains backed behind a solid foundation of subjective experience when dealing with cars.

Congrats on the purchase enjoy it!

    also, your name is Royal.
    I really like that.

Kind words; thank you very much.

In the ultimate quest for a vehicle, I had to ask myself the simple question: what is a car?

Is it something I want to restore? Am I actually interested in the process of a restoration? No and no. Is it something I want to drive? Yes. The answer was obvious. One should only undertake a restoration if they're actually interested in the process of restoring and rehabilitating or heavily modifying a vehicle. Otherwise, the best answer is to buy the best one you can afford.

There is very, very rarely any money to be saved in a restoration. No way in hell could I create this car for $23k which is what I paid.

As for my pictures, yes, my cell phone is the one thing that has serious deffered maintenance. I need to have the screen and camera replaced slash just buy a new phone... haha.

Thanks for the kind words guys!!

All true. I've seen some OE/OE+ full restoration threads around here that exceeded the purchase price of your car, and took a year or more to complete. Don't let other people's priorities contribute one bit to any sense of buyer's remorse on your part. It looks like a great car and will be great for years to come.

Anyone who owns an E30 should be HAPPY that they're commanding this kind of pricing.

Price is subjective; they're not all worth this kind of money to all people... but demand certainly outweighs supply... they just aren't making them anymore and won't ever again.

          Thanks guys!!
Agee wholeheartedly. Congrats! Is this, by chance, the 318is featured Bimmer mag in a comparo vs. a similar red 325is, about a year or two ago? Is it from CA?

So, what are your plans for it? Keep it stock and drive it how it is? Or, a very nice set of coilovers and beautiful wheels to boot?

The only important question is, are you going to drive it to this year's E30 Picnic? ;-)

Congrats man, you've got one incredible original example. I had the chance to see that Alpine white 318is with slightly more mileage than yours, and it was worth every penny paid... EAG has found and sold some primo e30s. You are so right, there is not a driver's car like the e30 available today, and, unlike other new cars, your e30 with not be depreciating any time soon! All of the world's most brilliant thinkers in history were once ridiculed or questioned for some aspect of their genius....

It looks great. Congrats again! I can certainly appreciate the originality of it. You may be at the cusp of an investment e30 and might already have to buy another to drive.

The car spent it's entire life in a covered garage in Minnesota, it's not from California, though it's just as clean if not cleaner than a low mile west coast car.

It is not the Bimmer mag car, however. That car is a slicktop and at the time had something like 75k on it. It's very close to mine though!!!

I'm beginning to think that. I'm going to enjoy it over the summer and figure all that out when I put it up for winter.

EAG has AMAZING cars. They're expensive, but unreal. Congrats on the pickup! I occasionally regret swapping an S52 into my 318is. Just occasionally.

I'm siding with other people on this.

39K miles with few dings is not 'mint' and for that amount of money you could have bought a used one and replaced everything with new parts + restoration.

                            > The experience of driving a 39,000 mile E30 is something that not many people have done in a very long time.

Try driving one with a brand new suspension and coil overs. It will drive better. Seriously, $20K.

^^ Disagree. Most e30s on aftermarket coilovers drive like shit.

Why is this an argument... the guy paid (kind of) a lot of money for a thing he really wanted, got exactly what was advertised, and is very happy with it. Who cares what you think about it?
