So I have e30 325is and recently when I start her up on a half tank or less the revs drop to under 1 and the car sputters and dies, but when I have a full tank she starts right up, the revs are normal and does not die and acts totally normal. I was thinking it could be a possible fuel pump issue but Im not too sure. Anyone have any idea of whats the issue? Thanks!

maybe you've got so much shit floating around in your gas tank that it clogs the little filter on the in-tank pump and causes fuel starvation. pull up your back seat and remove the panel and disconnect it's hardware to inspect the inside of your tank for contaminants like rust flakes. Also change your in-line fuel filter... cheap and never hurts to do anyway. you never know.
Edit: also, is the fuel pump in the tank original BMW or an aftermarket retrofit? I've heard some aftermarkets that can be dropped in aren't long enough for the tank and cause starvation issues below a half a tank.

Also, if it's an early model, it has two fuel pumps, one internal, one external. If the internal one goes bad it can still run, but can have problems like you describe.
When you fill it from half tank, how many gallons will it take?Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"
