Dude, dump the KA24DE shitbox boat-anchor and sling in an SR20DET. Add a set of Tein coilovers, some good quality sway bars, strut braces and monkey bars, fat Work rims with good tyres and R32 GTS-t M-spec brakes and you've got a great canyon carver/beginner's track car.
The SR20s respond well to mods and we've got plenty of 180SXs in Australia running easy 200-rear-wheel kilowatts (nearly 300hp) with basic breathing/computer mods. Parts list is:
- Front-mount intercooler
- Turbo-back 3in exhaust
- A'PEXi Power FC ECU
- Upgraded fuel pump, injectors, adjustable fuel-pressure regulator
- Spitfire ignition system
- Garrett GT28 turbo
- Electronic boost controller
- HD clutch
- Tein coilovers (either HA or RA, your choice), or D2 if you got $$$
- R32 GTS-t brakes
- Nismo 2-way LSD

The RBs went like this.
RB20DETT
RB25DETT
RB26DETT
Same i6, with a Twin Turbo for all, but with different displacement.
Of course the T means Turbo, and the TT means Twin Turbo. Each of these engines have a option for non-turbo.
You lose. There is no twin-turbo RB20 or RB25. Both the RB20DET and RB25DET are single-turbo, DOHC, in-line six-cylinder engines as found in GTS-t Skylines as well as some select other models (Stagea for example). There is also an RB25DET-Neo from the R34 GT-T which featured variable valve timing, or something like that...
The RB26DETT is a VASTY, VAAAAASTLY different engine to the 20/25, featuring many hardcore race-spec homologation parts needed to get the car legal in Group A touring car racing. I've had the pleasure of playing with many, many GT-R Skylines out here and you only need to look at the bare OEM components from each engine to see how tough and race-spec the GT-R's engine is compared to a GTS-t.

VETs are rare.... not very common to come by. I still say go for the SR20DET. Its popular and cheap to come by. Just make sure you check the credibility of your buyer, because some guys just scam you with busted motors.
You got me. I'm not exactly a big fan of RB series. They're dope. But I'll take any BMW six. If you're willing to buy something from California, I know some good sellers, due to where I work.
