Pull the trigger on this e28 for the m30?

Hey r3vers, don't know much about the m30 but this beater e28 535i just pulled up into my jobs wholesale and I'm considering picking it up solely for the m30. Car won't cost me more than 500 and I'm wondering if this'll be a good come up. Engine doesn't look to be too beat, 180 on the odo, only leaks I found were under the coolant reservoir but the car does seem to have a misfire. What's the verdict/insight r3v?

i think you might be better off getting an e34 from 89 to 91 or a 735i from around the same years if you can procure a good deal. the engine would have a little more power and you can occasionally find the e34 with a manual trans.

what you have there may be just fine, but m30b35 would be the best choice.

Do I wish my m30 swapped car had an m30b35 instead of an m30b34? Sure. Do I regret doing exactly what you are saying, and buying an e28 to snag the m30b34 and transmission out of? Hell no!

Just be warned that the easy way to deal with the engine management for an m30 swap is to keep the m20 harness, and use an e34 crank pulley/AFM/DME. If you start with an e34, you're all set. If you start with an e28, that means more parts to track down.

I have heard that the b35 comes with a bit more power but is it really enough to where I won't be happy with a b34? Although my b27 still runs great without a hiccup an engine swap is next on my car since the cosmetic restoration is finally done. But knowing that I need extra parts to source definitely steers me to a b35.

Also, how the heck do I post pictures straight to the post?? Still can't figure it out via my iphone6 and I'm tired of using links

At least for me I have to take the pic first, then come into tapatalk and right above the keyboard is a mountain with a sun hit that and select your photo. If you don't have tapatalk definitely get it if you use your phone to browse r3v or any other forums supported by it
