All the e34's I've worked on m30 wise have driveby wire...plus luxo panache is key...5'ers are just on the cusp.

Perhaps I'll take my e30 for a spirited heehaw jaunt and completely nip this "want" in the butt

Oh I didn't know that, I thought they were all throttle cables...

Hey for $650 you could drive it for the summer and flip it.

E34 is drive by wire aka braided steel wire not fiber optics. Too Old.

Now for the E23, older prone to rust front suspensions that tend to be weak, Parts are on the verge of non-existent and Vacuum bomb brakes plus vacuum controlled HVAC.

I say pass. Granted I like them but it would need to be perfect condition for me to even remotely consider one. I get the pleasure of working on a buddies every now and then. His needs a valve adjustment yeah though it's not hard. I'm sure it has a few vacuum leaks now too.

yeah i'd say an m30 e34 is what you really want based on 80s looks, floaty ride, best reliability, and low cost. i think reliability for any of these older cars is going to be based more on how they were maintained/abused and less on the particular chassis, so like someone said, cheap does not mean cheap.

Mr burns, dump that $2k towards to something that will be more sustainable! (i.e your e30) Don't buy a car that's less than stellar condition (no matter how good the deal is) and end up spending more $$ and time into it.

And for those wondering...I am going to pass...as much as I envision a romantic relationship, I think me taking on a 30 year old DD alongside my e30 is not such a hot idea...thanks all.

To anyone interested, pm me it's located on Toronto and it's sexy.

Yes, and as the last 7 series available with a stick shift the e32 735i is a great car. The e23 is very nice too, but imo both are best enjoyed as manual transmission cars. Early e23s didn't have climate control, but sadly would be hard pressed to find an early 733i these days.
