Or upgrade to ellipsoids w/ HIDs which make H4's look like crap.

You guys shoukl go to http://www.danielsternlighting.com. That guy knows his stuff.

The new Cibie CSR lights absolutely blow my old ellipsoids out of the water.

Not cheap...but the low beam performance makes a joke out of the ellips..

Oh and here's why HID retrofits aren't such a "bright" idea!!

It would be nice to have someone independent do a stud on the differences between the lamps. Stern does seem to have done some research but ignores the physics of light itself blaming the yellow-white world of suplhur lights on the way the light is created instead of the light itself. I also tend to want to get a second opinion since he is, after all, selling what he is promoting.

I didn't get that he is necessarily dissing HIDs out-of-hand as being inferior. It seems to me he is addressing the hype of HIDs supposed total superiority over halogen systems. My current lights are far better than the HIDs in my mother's Acura TL.

As with anything, car makers put into cars things which the buying public views as superior, whether such superiority really exists.

Mr Stern has told me that he often receives HID sets to evaluate, but so far, has found none he would use on his own vehicle. I find this refreshing. A lot of sites have crappy products hyped to the max to try to separate you from your money. Witness: the "Blue Bulb" phenomenon.

The "yellow-white world" portion merely addresses the effect of color temperature on the perception of the amount of light, to paraphrase.

He may have a product to promote, but he only does high-end and seems to tell it like is when it comes to "what you need" vs "how do want to look".

              Just my opinion... :)
