When I was 14 I learned to drive the 2 speed forklift at my dads work. It was pretty easy, it idled so high I never had to give it gas, so all I had to focus on was working the clutch.

13, not in poll although 8 10 and 16 are cross listed.
It was a 76 Toyota Corolla stick and when I got my learners permit at 15 I was allowed to drive anywhere by myself (not legal of course). It made me a very sensible young driver, although I did get a ticket quickly when I turned 16.

11 in a 76 Pontiac Firebird SD 400, 4spd. Very tough to reach heavy clutch but Dad dealt with it. Either that or his drunk ass had to walk home. Father had a drinking issue. But gave me the car anytime I needed it over the years.

Back when things weren't so uptight. 70's man psychedilic. Yeah I'm old, had a license when most of you were probably born 1982 got my license, so I've been driving 22 years now legally.

By myself was 6 in a 1978 Ford Ranchero, automatic.
My dad would put me in his lap and let me steer on the backroads all the time before that. So I I'd guess 4 or 5 for steering only.

Stick shift was around 12 or 13. POS Subaru fwd wagon from our car lot. I remember he made me stop on a hill (SanFrancisco style) and start w/o rolling back. Killed it a couple times and then did a big fat smokey fwd burnout.

I've been teaching my oldest boy to drive a little. I started him when he was 5. My 8 year old daughter, well...she drives just like a girl...can't! Well ok, she can a little and she has a while till she actually needs to. :D

15, 1984 Plymouth Voyager in my parents driveway. On neighborhood streets when parents went out

15/16 in a 85 Nissan Maxima SE - father taught me how to drive a stick on back roads in this one. That summer (1985) after I got my learner permit, my father let me do all the driving on a familiy vacation to yellowstone park. Not exactly legal, but what the heck, I got seat time and my parents had a nice ride west.

                          14, in a 1990 Jeep Cherokee.

My dad told me we were going to go out to a parking lot and learn to drive. He got out on the highway, pulled off on the shoulder and said "you're going to go drive to the parking lot now"

Stickshift, I learned at 15 in a driver's school 3 cyl geo metro.

What always pisses me off, is that I was initially left foot braking, and always got bitched at for it, so I unlearned it. Now that I'm a track & autox whore, left foot braking is "Good" again, and I'm trying desperatley to relearn it.
