    high shift effort

    Hi all.

In the last month or so, the shift effort on my e30 325is has gotten pretty high... it just takes more effort to move the shift lever between gears. Before I start taking things apart, has anyone experienced this? Where should I look?

    Thanks,

    dave

make sure your clutch slave or master cyl isnt going south. maybe your not getting enough travel on the throwout bearing fork.

try Changing your tranny fluid. my first e30 barely had any tranny fluid when i bought it, and it was pretty difficult to shift. I discovered this when i had drained the tranny oil, and nothing but a small amount of black shit came out. Using redline synthetic did wonders, the way shifting is supposed to feel. Oh, and are you using the stock shift lever or a short shifter?

My car was doing a similar thing.. snapped shifter linkage. It gradually got worse and worse, to the point where I could only use two gears, 2nd and 4th..

Agreed same thing with mine...new fluid and good as new! well almost besides my shiftlinkages that need new shims or whatnot.
