You guys who have problems with ball joints need to learn how to swing a hammer. Accuracy AND power will break any ball joint free in minutes.

ok, this thread...the op's initial post are good for a nice chuckle.

you have to realize that you are your own worst enemy here right? the problems you are having are related to your inexperience working on cars and the lack of proper tools.

now...with that said, it is truly awesome how the community comes together to help out a young new guy with advice and encouragement.

from now on, buy the separation tool from harbor freight as stated above. i have that same tool and have used it dozens of times on anything from an e30 to my f350.

instead of just attacking a project like a bull in a china shop and causing more damage to your car, i would suggest watching a few youtube videos or doing a search here on the subject at hand. i promise you that these two avenues will get you through 100% of the issues you will have with your car. take notice that i said to do a search instead of posting a new thread such as "how do i replace the springs on my e30?". i promise you...this forum has been around for 12 years now. every possible question you could possibly have about your car has already been covered ad nausium.

Yup, it's what you want. BUT it's not for separating the joint....it's for putting pressure on it, then whacking the arm with a hammer. If you try to crank on those until it pops the joint loose, you're going to have a bad time.

I did both my E30 and E36 with that tool. I just pop it in place, and hit it with the electric impact. It pops the joint out like nothing.

I keep my head away from it and wear thick gloves, in case anything breaks. It hasn't been a bad time at all. Trying to separate them by slamming at them with a hammer was a bad time.

When I did the balljoints after I first got my car, I had no real trouble with them. Pickle fork and a 2lb sledge and they came right out. Then I put some anti-seize on the mating surfaces of the new ones, so when I did my coilovers separating everything was a breeze.

On my parts car I just stood in the engine bay and busted the top nut off with the strut still attached to the car, wasn't sketchy at all.

Have you verified the coil, and both relays in fact when bad? That seems suspect
