Your better off going with a clean swap and then throwing some wide-meaty tires and coilovers on it.
This well save you headaches and make you more proud of your car

I never did think the asking price was fair, but there's plenty about these cars I don't know which is why I'm asking questions. I offered $6000 which is my current budget for one, he countered with $7500 firm. He's also pretty far away to just drive for nothing. I'll be keeping a look out in here, it seems like this is the place for what I'm looking for.

You'll probably have to make a long drive for the right car. I hopped on a plane to get mine. $7500 for an S50 swapped car is probably worth looking at, if there are more issues or the issues presented are more serious, negotiate down or walk away.
