Byzanz Metallic
I have seen a few examples locally of Byzanz. Some for sale (when I was searching for an E36), others just cruising around town. Like henna, there are plenty of examples especially when you start looking for them. I am not convinced the color is sought after either. Some of these byzanz cars just sit for a while before selling. It's just a matter of personal taste. Like most, you discover the color by chance because you are searching for a specific make.
Mugello Rot I dont see often but looks more like hellrot.

There we go! As far as the interior, you are correct, it did not come from the factory with the champagne interior but the PO loved it so much, he got it redone professionally in that color. I applaud his taste!1997 Model year is correct. It was only available on M3 Sedans. Canada did not get them.
US M3 Manual: 37 cars
US M3 Automatic: 51 cars
Euro M3 LHD: 23 cars
Euro M3 RHD: 9 cars
It was available outside Luxury package as well. There was no Champagne interior on the E36 M3 Sedan.
Pretty sure it has Grey Nappa Leather, but judging by the carpet it is not the original interior. I think it had Magma leather originally, since Modena was not available on Byzans cars.Leave a comment:

What I did find out it was offered in 1997 only. As for as the number with the color, best guesses seem to be around 200 tops. About 1/4 of them came with a manual. So if anyone finds a Byzanz E36 with a factory manual gearbox.....buy it!

Yeah I found out it was 1997 sedan lux package cars only and only US market. Even less with the champagne interior, even less less with the brown carpet.Re: the Byzanz color....I did some Googling. Wait there was a recall for the 5th gear lean issue? If and when you get ready to do the swap on another car, get the detents and 1 gear issue sorted, if it hasn't been done already.
There were 2 recalls on these transmissions. The 5th gear lean being the most infamous. You can live with them both but better to repair them when its off the car.Leave a comment:
