I've been selling parts for a while, and most of the overpricing i see is because the seller has no god damn idea what hes selling, just slapped a price on it and called it good.
When I sell parts I find the part on RealOEM, search it on parts sites to see the new price, if its NLA i ask maybe 10-20% more then what the retail was (as long as it was in good condition) and if its still available I ask about half what the retail for a new one is worth.
whats with the crazy pricing for used parts?

If people left their sale prices in their ads (like the rules state you have to in the classifieds section) then I don't think this would be nearly an big of an issue.Leave a comment:

We have no junkyards here. I have to find everything online or somewhere else.
fortunately I just found a Russian guy who lives out in the sticks that makes side money parting out BMWs. lol. Actually he's pretty nice, but I think he wants a bit much for some of his parts.. at least I don't have to ship them or buy sight unseen.Leave a comment:

Junkyards are a good way to get parts you need cheap. At this point a majority of my interior is from the junkyard. Sometimes really good stuff comes through.Leave a comment:

Nope. Prices are cheap for bmw car and they are not going up unless if we are talking about hartge, alpine etc. Its just the few idiot who knows nothing about market value and ask unrealistic prices.E30 parts seem to be going up and up as they get older, good parts are getting harder and harder to find. I would say parts sold on ebay are a bit ridiculous but ebay takes 10 percent plus auction cost plus paypal fees that's why everything seems to be marked up quite a bit online.Leave a comment:

I haven't found used parts on this side of the border to be too crazy. I've picked up some parts from wrecking yards, a BMW used parts specialist, and a guy who does it more as a hobby.
I've had pretty good luck.
Some of my finds:
Complete clutch kit (Sachs - clutch disc, pressure plate, release, pilot bearing and alignment tool) - $100 from the hobby guy. Also got a BMW reman'd alternator for $100 plus some other odds and ends. Also got a front fender from him for $50, and 2 new KYB shock inserts ($50).
Set of E30 premium speakers - $20 (wrecker)
Lower steering column assembly - $50 (BMW used part specialist)
Used tranny - $20 - kijiji ad.
I think I've done OK.Leave a comment:

The PO of my car used the top of a gladware until I found a new one from a local guy
I never ask hella money for shit I sell. That's just bad business. This is a community with people who are into the same thing as you. It's a family of sorts. If you try to rip off your family, you're the scum of the earth. Plain and simple.Leave a comment:

Junk yard bandits. Strip an e30 , destroying any part in their way and mark it up well beyond what they paid to pay for their insurance.
Good folks are here. Picked up a PS pump for 35 shipped. Some parts are rare and command a premium but even those are a tough sale anymore.Leave a comment:

This looks like the spot for my for sale ad pet peeve.
NIB Price - no one cares what you paid.they are going to compare to lowest price they can get it for online then expect a discount. Why....for starters, in most cases they don't know you. Second...and this is big....buying from you they have no warranty...ZERO...NADA...ZILCH.
May not matter much on hard parts, but beware...if they are NIB Koni or Bilsteins you can kiss the lifetime warranty goodbye. How much discount would that require ?
Perfect but.... - there is no but to perfect. It is or it isn't...so that dash FS that's perfect, except for a small crack.....give me break
Known good - this means that you PERSONALLY ran with this part and stake you left nut that it works. "The guy who sold it to me said it works" does not count. Save it for the judge.
Plus PayPal - really ? Seriously? We are taking about 3%. If you can't build that in to your price go sell it on a street corner. I once negotiated for a $15 part and the seller tried to hit me up for fees. We are talking $.45 !!! <insert Lewis Black saying WTF !>
Done for now. Thanks :)Leave a comment:
