Haha. This makes me think of the "everyone is so different and I haven't changed".

In reality, as you age you realize the golden rule a bit more. And that brings about the better interactions.

It is called hormones and fearlessness. We all change through our years. And for good reason. It's called maturity.

IMO the douche bag cops are the lazy cops who are cops for all the wrong reasons.

At Walmart we deal with police pretty regularly, 85% of the officers are great and respectful and will arrest when they should, put their head down and do the paper work and shit and take them to court if it's over $250. They are kind to the suspects unless they stole with their kids or something, and crack jokes and what not.

The other 15%, really this one guy, is a lazy sack and won't arrest people for TV cases! My co worker and I both had a $400 plus tv case, about a week apart (in MA above $250 is larceny over $250 = felony). But this one guy just doesn't give a shit and won't arrest people and is like hehe well you can press charges! Thanks cop, this dude just committed a felony and why don't you want to arrest him? Why did I call you?

That kinda f u I'm only here to write tickets and interrogate you attitude definitely is what makes the police get such a bad rap. Tons of the cops love their job and are a cop because they want to be a cop for the right reasons, and they are stand up guys. Then there are the others who grill me about the case, I show them video and they still won't do shit.

Way off topic but if you are Walmart LP... and you catch a shoplifter.. you grab their info and can swear out charges on them. Cops taking them for you or not is nothing on the cop. Could be end of shift, busy with calls, supervisory instruction, budget concerns, order from states attorney office or simply knows it ain't his arrest. Just like LP at WalMart, you got a lot of bosses above you.

Also, do you actually go to court if the cop makes the arrest? If not, the case is likely dropped .. and you are the turd for not seeing the case through.

And your felony of a $251 Korean shit brand, sweat manufactured Walmart POS TV... don't make it any more special of a crime. While you sit on your per h and squawk about that others will say the lazy cops should be getting the murders and rapists.. not the TV stealing slouch! Can't make em all happy.. maybe we could become a police state and even your thoughts would be subject to full punishment. A line has to be drawn. Just think, if the felony theft is so important..which you seem to make it out to be.. why would yoi stress about getting your own charges drafted??? If it is so important, you do it!! Dude isn't violent. Ley him go. Press charges. Save the day.

When you boil it down, it don't mean shit. Just do what you do well. The world still spins if you're not here. My E30 may not start. But the world goes on.

And I liked the WM LP guys. Reggie was cool. Always a smile and always in court. We took care of him, because he proved himself. He didn't call for stupid shit or if he did call, and we told him we were strapped with calls.. he wouldn't pout and say he understood. . Maybe give thief a talking to, check for warrants and roll. He knew his duties and respected ours and it reciprocated.

                  End that for now...

Yeah, but you know what. Humans are inherently bad at statistics; so lets leave the 'feelings' out of this. I'm not saying I think all police are bad, or good. I'm saying don't defend it based on feelings.

So the issue is she's a coworker and may soon be a direct report to me so taking pictures of her may be weird or plain creepy.

I had a cop pull me over about 6 months after I got my E30. So when I ask what I did wrong, he says nothing. He tells me how much he's loved E30s and had owned several, but never a coupe. We talked for a few minutes, and he asked if I was interested in selling. Since my E30 was new to me, I said no. He laughed, wished me a good day and I left.

Cops can be cool people, but there is the small percentage with Small Dick Syndrome who get into the job for the power trips.

My job is to call the cops over certain dollar, I don't even if it's not over $250. It says call over $25 LOL. I call if second or more offense, no ID (another rule) and over $250.

A bit of background Shoplifter dresses up "to go to work" at a college as a chef, it's not even in session. I researched the campus, not a single diner was open when he got stopped by us and when he left us, and the school is quite close.

Shoplifter steals tv in front of his KID. Shoplifter lies and lies and lies and lies. Cop SEES video. Cop doesn't do shit.

Some people are super chill, steal $100 and everything is normal and they are out of there real quick. They aren't compulsive lying, decietful types. You need to work LP to understand why we want people arrested when we do. After watching someone for an hour push a tv out with their kid in front of them and not get arrested is mind boggling if the police show up. It wasn't like "hey I fucked up it was really dumb, shit." It was "I had no intent to steal the Tv I just forgot to pay ;'(. Then he looks at his kid, leans over, and says in an angry tone "Didn't I tell you we have to pay for stuff before we leave!" All mad, it was leget evil spewing out of this dude's mouth blaming his 7 year old kid. Lie after lie we prove wrong with video once the police officer came. In my experience the cops don't like liars, but not this one obviously.

And yes it's called filing a criminal complaint, Instead of him being processed by the cops, we have to go back door to file the charges which is a bitch. His job is to arrest, sure he can use discretion but really? Who the hell are you going to arrest if you don't arrest someone for stealing a $400 tv? Are TV's free in every store now?

I'm no macho man I am respectful and genuine, and I'm not even super righteous about catching the thieves, but if you steal and get caught, and if it's a felony, and they don't take you away I think that's really dumb. Your points about bosses and budgets is completely valid, but other cops have arrested people for a lot less than $400, so unless it changed from last week to this one, it's unlikely. It's the same trend with just this one dude.

"Oh my shift is changing, well I don't want to help anyone out like usual, see you guys!" Pointless to waste his time my time the shoplifters time. I would have just said hey I know the lazy cop is coming so have a nice day you will recieve a summons in the mail because I'm filing a criminal complaint against you.

And I assume you are PD or dispatch, and that's completely fine if you guys are busy, happens every so often. But that's not part of my post. If the cops can't come, I am not going to care because if the cops are busy, it's much more important than larceny over for a TV and I can still file a criminal complaint.

So long story short, if the person is a felon and 85% arrest, the other 15% either has whack discretion, is lazy because of shift change or whatever it may be. IMO not arresting someone because of shift change puts you in bad cop territory to me. I'm no expert on how they go about that so if it's super time dependent then sure, but then maybe he shouldn't have come in the first place, or sent the next guy over on his first call.

When you call, cops go. Not much can cancel the call once initiated. Bosses do change. Shifts rotate. Manpower issues arise (who else is with an arrest, on a call, etc). People lying? Even when faced with irrefutable facts? Shocker. I tend to be more shocked when folks tell the truth. Some folks are so mentally ill, so unable to address reality... that is what you get. Are TVs free? No. But businesses accommodate for and certainly expect shrinkage. Why not hire thirty more of your position? Why not put a spider on every item in the store? All about money.

I've seen some real lose bags. Unemployed 25yr old with I recall 4 kids, collected SSI for an ailment and was driving the newest MY Dodge .. stole a shopping cart of junk.. a 50 cent CD, etc.

Funny everyone says a certain percentage of cops are this or that. Think of your own profession, too. I'm doubtful everyone is such a superstar. It is life.

                              Back to OP:

GIGO, Garbage in = garbage out. If you get a break, cool. If not, still got court. And if still frowning by then, sounds like you earned it.
