    High calorie, high protein diet

Since im starting back into my workout routine, i need some diet info:

I need to eat about 4000 calories a day, and about 160 grams of protein.

Is anyone else on a high protein/calorie diet that they can share with me? Im itching for some information

yea im trying to gain about 15 pounds.

one thing i cook is pretty high in calories and protein

2 eggs, whole milk, velveeta cheese and these philly cheese stake slices....basically make scrambled eggs then add the cheese and steak, serve over toast...drink with some whole milk.

i actually just finished that and by god...im full

Low fat peanut butter, shitloads of protein in that.

If the idea doesn't bother you, I've always gotten good results when I've cycled creatine, I average a good 12-16 pound gain during a 3 week cycle, it blows you up quick.

You don't need 160 grams of protein per day. Who told you that? My guess is some idiot at GNC.

And that diet you listed, LOL. If you're trying to gain 15 lbs of fat, stay on it. If you really want a lot of protein, start eating a lot of soy products. Soy protein is the easiest for the body to use, much easier than animal protein.

I've been a vegetarian for about two years now and I was able to gain over twenty pounds of muscle in six months. I ate a lot of soy nuts (VERY high protein) and drank a lot of soy milk.

Peanut Butter is good (definitely low fat), and make sure to get the natural kind. The hydrogenated oils in the processed brands are really bad for you, i.e. carcinogens.

Creatine monohydrate can also be useful. I've encountered so many people that have been led down the wrong path about it. Everyone has creatine in their body. All you're doing is supplementing your natural supply. Creatine supplements basically allow you to work out longer. They don't add any muscle, or do anything else miraculous. I'm sure there are enough people on this board who have studied biology and metabolism to understand the cycle.

If its muscle gain you are after and one is training hard to gain muscle weight, the one gram of protein per each pound of body weight is a minimum recomendation. To maintain lean body mass one should consume .8 grams of protein per each lb of body weight. So 160 grams if that is your weight, then thats fine.

Creatine. It doesnt allow you to work out longer, just harder. It allows for more forcefull initial muscle contractions. As far as weight gain is concerned, creatine increases muscle size by allowing the muscle to store significantly more water than normal.

For those who want to gain weight, eating significantly more calories is the right way to do it. You want to create a calorie surplus. But you have to be carefull with what you put into your body. You are what youe eat. I agree with Ken that one should not eat lots of fat to gain weight. Then again you may just be one of the few individuals (besides being young) that is blessed with a naturally high metabolism. Ive got one guy here at work (whos in his ealry 30s) that eats in excess of 5-7k calories a day and he doesnt gain single pound. If hes lucky maybe one lb. Hes 6'2" and weighs 155 lbs.

Also research what you want to do weight and health wise and like Ken said, dont just listen to some person at GNC.

For a good e-book and nutrition and explanations how the body works with regards to caloric intake follow this link.

Hey KenCopperwheat, out of curiosity what made you decide to become a vegetarian?
I desperately need to get more protein into my body and your soy info is interesting. You have any good links?
