Yeeeeeah. I get that youre trying to be insulting, but if you read the comments youd understand this was not a "naive mother/kids mistake". The oil gelled which in turn registered as no oil on the dipstick. The oil passages were clogging on the pistons causing excessive oil consumption. Most 2007-2009 Camrys are being recalled for this and many other issues, but thank you for your concern.

^^ All of that was not something you knew nothing of until this came up in your thread here.

What is gelled oil never seen it there is oil sludge but it usually builds up in the head or timing cover not the whole oil pan

Oil gelling and sludge is used interchangeably. Severe sludge can plug all engine passages.

Not that anyone cares, but a quick update on my wife's Camry situation.
Oil consumption test complete. Dealer confirmed the car failed the test, so now are ordering parts for rebuild. I'm not sure how confident I am in their ability to rebuild a motor but it seems they will become well-versed considering the number of vehicles impacted.
I'm actually a little suprised they didn't fudge the test and just tell me it passed. Maybe they're getting a reasonable rate from corporate on this repair.

Interesting...I would imagine this would mean a free repair on Toyota's tab?

I'm working at a Toyota import facility for a few weeks, got explained how everything works, if it's a recall issue. The dealer. If not run by Toyota. Which a lot are. Just performs the work, parts get ordered for free, and Toyota rights the labor expense off. Since cars are already marked up. They don't notice the loss I'm sure. And most labor on recalls and such. Generally is discounted as far as Toyota goes.

The place I'm at , distributes 5000+ cars in 5 days, they make $ so quick it's not funny.

Yea it's not a recall its a "warranty enhancement". I guess that's what companies call them now when they issue too many recalls for crappy vehicles.
Either way it will be taken care of no expense to me.

I wouldn't worry about a dealership rebuilding an engine.

When I worked at Nissan we had to actually attend a Nissan Training school to be able to perform certain warranty repair. Many of us already had sufficient training, but it did not matter. Trans rebuilds, engine rebuilds, all were thoroughly covered. Though, my favorite class was CAN-BUS diag and repair. That shit is complicated.

Anywho, I imagine Toyota does a similar thing as far as training goes.
