Thought the same thing while typing that. No, we will be fine! I wish my car was done so I could start working on it. This 2 month engine swap has turned into 6 months.

I would guess that there are some plastics that can be heated and bent if you wanted to go that route.

On one hand I kind of like how the metal provides a little structure to hold everything together well since it is attached to 3 different plastic components.

On the other hand, the fact that it is metal means that it would not do a very good job of being 'sacrificial' in the event that the front spoiler took a small impact. It is likely more rigid, and therefore if the spoiler hit something would do more damage to the spoiler than the OEM plastic panel. The undertray is very rigid and since the panel bridges the gap between the MT1 spoiler and the undertray, the spoiler would probably take more force in an impact. You might be able to avoid this with 3 plastic rivets to the spoiler instead of 3 metal screws in which case the rivets might shear in an impact. Or you could just not hit anything...That's what I plan to do!
Thanks. Yeah, after thinking about it, I may just not hit anything. lol

Would you mind letting me know were you got your plastic that you made those pieces out of? Also, how did you bend it? Thanks!

<edit> or are those made from metal?

Wow, great pictures and explanations. I will be referencing this thread a lot as I build my car.

Sorry about the delay on picking up parts. I can give you another down-payment no problem.

    MT1 Undertray etc.

Had to remove the undertray and custom infill panels in order to replace my power steering pump. Here is a photo of the custom infill panels. They are modeled after the factory panels but extend up to meet the plastic fender liner

Here is a shot of the undertray with the holes cut for the brake ducts

closer shot of one custom infill panel

Here is a shot from below without the undertray...note shiny new power steering pump in foreground

undertray installed without the infill panel from below

undertray installed without infill panel view from wheel well

infill panel installed view from below

another view from below with one side installed

here is a view of the infill panel installed view from the wheel well

All back together and no more steering groan at parking speeds. Replaced the pump, reservoir, hoses, belt, flushed the fluid from the rack and replaced with redline synthetic. I can finally fully appreciate the Z3 rack upgrade now.
