made first long drive in the 325is

so i finally brought it back home to where i live now, it was about 90 outside the whole way back and i had to have the heater on or it would go to 3/4 on the water-temp gauge in about 5-10minutes and i'd have to turn it back on. but when the heater was on it stayed pretty much at the half way point.

thats about 200* at the point right?

cooling system clearly needs some work, it has been bled, the upper hose is firm when it is warm. i think the clutch fan is bad so i'll get a new one of those. OBC said 31mpg average doing 65mph. not bad.

if your running hot at highway speeds, the fan isn't the culprit, check your thermostat, and maybe a coolant flush should be in order also.

I dunno bout that, i was creeping in three quarter at highway speeds before replacing my fan clutch. now I am below half.

              Thirded on the fan .

A proper bleeding is also probably in order .

Fan isnt the culprit. Most likely the thermostat.

keep in mind it was 90* outside when i was driving it could be the fan. If the radiator hose is pressurized and hard to squeeze do i still need to bleed it? when i did it the first time i opened the bleeder valve when it was hot and closed it when water came out.

                      thanks for all the responses.

now the question is 80/75/71 temp thermostat... fap99 has an 80* vernet w/ seal for $7.51...not bad!!

it says it retails for $20? must be a sale. is vernet a bad brand? the only other one fap99 has is $14 and it also lists for $14. i'd almost think then by your logic the $7 one is better since it has a higher retail price??
