What the hell?!?!

sorry this is really long with poor grammar and punctuation, im just a lil stressed out...

so i was driving home tonight, and all of a sudden it sounded like a ran something over, but i knew i hadnt because id been watching the road

so my clutch pedal starts feeling funny, really springy and tight, then starts like.. chattering with the revs of the engine

its gets harder to get into gear, and i nurse it home because im just like a block away, now i cant get it into gear at all, and im at a loss for what the hell just happened

my throw out bearing had started to show signs of going out, but it wasnt too bad, and besides that there had been nothing to tell me something was wrong...

so what do you think happened? i mean it sounds like my clutch went out or something, but the fact that it sounded like i ran something over makes me think something fell off the car or something, like the slave cylinder just decided to jump off or something

now i havent had a chance to look at anything, i just got home, but if anyone has any ideas, or if these symptoms sound like something, please let me know

May be your clutch. Broken clutch disc spring or fractured disc. That it is hard to get into gear tells me it is related to the clutch, because it's not disengaging the engine from the gearbox..
I don't know your car's history, but I once had a clutch disc explode because the neanderthal who owned the car before me only installed HALF the bellhousing bolts, and the ones that were there worked loose.

im gonna go out and try and see what the hell came off the car, ive owned the car for about 2 and a half years but its been parked about 2 of them, i dont really know much about its history prior to my owning it either

if it was the clutch disc spring or a fractured disc, what would have fallen off the car though, i mean im almost positive something fell off the car

i dunno, im gonna go try and figure something out

i checked and couldnt find anything that seemed out of place underneath, or more anything that should've been there but wasnt, so im not so sure what to think. ddavidv's response sounds pretty correct... man im pissed...

bump, anybody else got any ideas? i cant find anywhere that it looks like something fell off, but does anyone have any ideas?

i had a bunch of finger-springs from the pressure plate break on me - and i got a loud noise, then the pedal was vibrating with rpm, then it was impossible to disengage the clutch completely.

i nursed it home by clutchless revmatch type shifting (whatever you want to call it, slowly) and when i had to stop i used the brakes to stall it in 1st and started it with the starter motor... i felt like i was completely abusing the car, but had to get home.

i thought the TOB was toast, but turns out it was those clutch springs which went, and then wore the tob down due to imbalance of pressure (probably half my springs were gone)

fretburnr, that prety much matches my experience perfectly, sounds like that may be my problem
