I have been looking into it for a while.... I got held when I could not find enough information as to how to get the temporary tag while in Europe.
The 2nd part is my car's gas consumption vs Europe's gas prices. The only reason I'd have my car there is for the Nurburgring and maybe Hockenheim.... for everything else I rather the trains/buses.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

You can drive on US tags for a short period of time. I say a few cars last year when I was in Saarbrucken on business with us tags.
Guess they allow a short tourist style entry.Comment

My whole trip cost me around $3,000 including a plane ticket that I overpaid (other tourists that I came across seemed to have paid quite a bit less than what I have), a 22 day unlimited train pass, food, hostels, and the rest was spending money.... which good part of it was used on wheels. lolErick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

$460 RT from Dulles in Va. It's just west of DC. Gas is also cheaper to purchase in Luxemburg. Aachen is just up the road and you pass the Ring to get there. Hartge is just south less than hour on a fun road B51.
BBS plant is nearby also forgotten what town it is.Comment

I've lived in germany for one year and 6 days now. I used the trains for the first month i lived here too.
SchnellerVert - where do you check prices? and what airport are you flying from in the states? I check tickest about twice a month to try and figure out trends. seams like frankfurt is always cheaper than lux or amsterdam when flying to LAX or SFO
p.s. best ticket i got was $258 to fra - sfo round trip including taxes!!!Comment
