Hey R3V,
The local cam grinding company I have dealt with for years said they will make regrinds for whatever spec I want for $80/ea if I buy 12, plus an $85 setup fee.
They need a template, though.
If we can find a Schrick 282 or smaller cam that has been broken, that would be a decent start. If I find 11 more guys that want a regrind, that would be around $100 each for a cam.
You would have to find a usable core cam to start with. I will try and see if we could use ETA cams as the core.
Port an ETA head, add dual valve springs, "i" intake with 19lb'ers and a set of headers on an ETA should make a great stroker on a MarkD chip.
Here are a couple of my questions:
Would you have to drill oil passages if you used an ETA cam in an ETA head?
Would the casting be up to the job?
Would the MarkD chip be perfect for this setup?
Would it be possible to build a freshened motor out of an old ETA for just about nothing?
IMO, if I got 40,000 miles of decent performance (basically, run away from a fresh M20B25) on a setup that cost me $300 (not counting parts that would last: Headers, Chip, "i" intake, Injectors, M30AFM or whatever) I would be content to swap a motor out every 3 years.
I see ETA motors in CL often for $100, or here on the board for free.
Luke
