What is the diff between ellipsoid, projecter, and smiley lights.

Smileys are ellipsoids, and ellipsoids are projectors
projectors: there is a bulb, behind the bulb is a reflector, in front of the bulb is a magnifying glass lense; generally speaking, together, the assembly is called a projector.
ellipsoidal: the beam of light that is projected by the, uh, projector (see above) is like a long, narrow oval of light, shooting out in front of the headlight
smileys: projector headlights have a cut-out in the front plate to allow some light to escape from the lower part of the fixture, lighting up area to the left and the right of the car better.
