Blown diff - am I the only one?

My diff decided to go out on me. I searched and searched - has anyone had a diff go bad?

    (this was on a med-case diff, 1989 325is with a m30 motor)

Anyone? Am I the only one?

    ..?

no, its just not that common. i has a customer with a 87 m3 that had a blown diff, seized up the pinion bearing.

    Unlimited Slip Diff's FTW!

i blew one a couple years ago. i built a car over 4 or 5 months and installed the diff dry right away. once i got the motor in and running i totally forgot to fill the diff. for future reference you can drive them dry about a mile before they seize at 65mph. i was just barely able to get it stopped in a straight line. stupid , yes. i now label things if they are going to sit a long time. its tough getting old

I blew up the small-case 4.10ls in my 318is with the 4-banger, from doing too much stupid shit (burnouts, donuts, etc)

Blown diffs cause your wheels to lock while driving?
My diff is losing some fluid almost every day...a drop here and there
and I have to refill it a little every 3000m just to be on the safe side...

My friend blew his diff yesterday.

I've been driving with 4 E30's for 5 years, but haven't blown any.

Never heard of it on any BMW.
Typically they leak from the side seals, they're fairly cheap and really easy to replace, you can prolly do it with the diff still in the car just by dropping the half-shafts, prying the output flanges out...replace the seals, put it back together, you're good to go.

I destroyed a 3.25 which leaked to its own death.

After closer look, he didn't blow diff. His outer cv joint splines broke, suprisingly hub wasn't damaged at all.

                          Ever heard anything similiar?
