I do, for a few reasons.
1. If a fire JUST SO HAPPENS to start, the fewer pumps pushing gasoline around, the better.
2. I also own a newer BMW. The computer gets confused when you refuel when the car is running and you put gas in. The gauge gets baffy too.
3. The signs all say 'shut the car off'.
4. Gas fumes when pumping are bad enough without exhaust gas in the mix.
5. ....it saves gas.
I don't know about e30s, but a lot of newer cars will get the check engine light on if the gas cap is off while the car is running. I like knowing I have the keys to my car in my pocket when I am not in the car as well.
BROTHER believe me when i say that 'round here you don't take chances like leaving your keys in the car let alone leaving it running!!!!Ya'll ever hear of a car "JACK" it happens more than you know and i'd hate to be the victim of such a terrible crime !
I shut mine off the majority of the time but if the car still needs to warm up or the turbo still needs to cool down I just leave it running. Usually leave the keys in it too, lol.
