    Dog-Leg HELP!!!! Please ASAP

I posted this in drivetraines but only got one reply. I need to know this for sure.

Ok I did a search on the forum and found a long thread stared by kyle but non of them answered my situation. so here I go.

I found and am getting a 5 speed close ratio DogLeg transmission out of a e28 525e european spec. Trust me I know its the real think I played with the shifter and its either a dogleg or a tranny with 6 gears and no reverse. Its the real deal.

I want to swap it out into my e30 M3. please keep in mind that it came out of the e28. SO..... my question is this. Will the dogleg mate to the S14? are all the doglegs the same, bellhousing wise and stuff? I dont wanna put it to waste.

Guys and Girls I need your info ASAP. the tranny will be in my possesion in about 2-3 weeks. I need to know if its anygood to me.

I will aslo post on s14.net and I hope that between R3V and S14.net I can resolve this quickly.

    Thanks in advance.

well if the tranny was from a e28 m20 than it would mount the same as an e30 m20, and does the e30m20 tranny mount to an s14? Cause if the m20 tranny mounts to the s14, then why wouldnt the dogleg box mount? the dogleg box does took a wee bit different but all the mounting points are there...

What, you didn't belive me before?

Just like I told you, and I am sure: Some of them have removable bells and some don't. Depends on the year. The cut off is the 9/82 production. If the donor car is before that date you should be ok. If it's after this date then it does not have a seperate bell, and you can't run it on an S14 because it's not the same bolt pattern as an M20.

listen to this man, he's right. Got the same info from the dealer in Japan while I was there. Found a dog leg from an e28 and couldn't swap it into my ///M either.

No, early euro 525/528e cars sometimes had the dogleg box IIRC. Some people swap them into 325i/e cars over there. BUT. They're generally considered inferior to the standard 5-speed and supposedly reduce your track time. This is with a 325. Not sure about an M3.

right i also read up that if were to keep my 4.10 LSD with a dog leg i would have no use for 1st because of the closer ration it would be. so What im worried about now is bell housing and if its removable. I hope..i hope.
