    alpina b6 e30?

Hey guys, I have a good friend who is thinking about trading his A4 gti in on an e30 alpina b6 with 87k kilometers on it....
They want 17 grand for it and it is in mint condition....
It has the 2.8 with the dogleg tranny. Is this a good dael? I know he should probably think about offering 3k less than their asking price...
    Yours truly,
    Rich

17,000 seems kinda high, but those are pretty sweet.

17k still a steal, importation costs to get it over here would run around $2500-3000 for shipping and around 14k for federalization depending on year. My car that didn't need EPA testing ran right around $9k for fed costs.

I took a look and test drove the car. It's questionable on authenticity and it's over priced. Engine has some issues and I think the owner is selling because the car has deteriorated passed a certain point. I'd never pay 17k for that car as much as I like the fact it has the alpina gauges and some other nifty shiet.

                That's just me personally though.

FWIW - That car has been on the lot for a while and the interior pieces don't match, I wouldn't call the car mint, it had petty quirky issues, it will need some investment to be mint and I don't mean a few hundreds. It does have Kopis indeed, the steering wheel is hard to unlock at times, the car has been resprayed, the coolant and oil level lights came on during the test drive and the true mileage of the car is unknown. Me 2 cents :o

No front cow catcher, does it have the under hood vin badge on the front cowl? Undersized tires. Rear spoiler is correct for earlier cars.

                  Replica imo.

The fake wheels and the fake badges off ebay make it scream a knockoff. No mudflaps and now cowcatcher also scream it from those pics.
                    Im now E30less.

That car was on eBay more than a couple of times as well. I contacted the seller, and we exchanged several emails about it. When I started asking about things I thought would be tell-tale signs of it being real/fake, he stopped responding.

2.8's arn't that quick and i think they didn't have the engine mounted as far back as the later 3.5's so it needs a special Alpina rad ?

Rich and other R3vlimited folks, Thank you for the help!
I am the guy looking at this car. To tell you the truth beofre yesterday I knew nothing about this car but thanks to Rich, R3vlimited and the interweb I now know way to much about this car... lol

Front end shot for people had asked for

According to m5broad this car sold for 9K in 2003 and did need paint at that time. It also has some mods done to it as well
                            http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...ghlight=B6+2.8

Yesterday when I drove the car is seemed to have no issues with any dash lights and it ran strong. About the only issue is it is way slower than my 337, Rich could have told you all that though.:p

So I want to join the E30 family and have been looking at alot of different cars before I came across this one.

Right now I would really just like to find out if it is a true Alpina with fake rims or a clone. either way I think the car is hot and might buy it, i just don't want to get raped and pay what a true 100% Aplina B6 would cost if it is not just that ;)

Pic of my current car so you see what I am thinking of giving up for this.

Thanks again for the input all,
                            John

I talked to Micah last night and we agree. As far as this car is concerned it isn't gonna be that fast..... if you start to really bastardize it, it is just another e30 then. There are two other options.... buy an e30 m3 like you were looking for that is original with no questions as to it's authenticity, or buy a car like ours, an IS with ok miles that you can find engine parts for and won't feel weird customizing to your tastes. I wouldn't pay 8k for the car due to it's "questionable" add ons. It is cool, but then again most e30s are if done well.... I have no doubt in my mind that if you had an IS like Mark, Elan, or I, or an eta like micah, it would be just as cool and tastefully done. The problem is it won't be as fast as the 337 or as new. The b6 isn't a daily driver due to the parts.... our cars have parts readily availible and are quick to be fixed in ATL. You wouldn't be able to repair or customize as fast with the b6. Buy an e30 for three grand and build it if you wanna be cool like us!:p Then I can start leaving you in the dust!
You and you basketball sized turbo!
