Is the black box behind my glove compartment critical to the locking system of my car?

if you open the glove compartment there is a panel inside you can remove with a black box that is part of the alarm system, it wont mess up my central lock system if i remove it?

This panel you speak of... is it in the top of the glovebox/bottom of dashboard?

Its in the top of the glove box. It is a stock item, has a big old BMW on top. Guess I can just unplug it and see how it turns out.

Its deffinatly not the ecu. I know its part of the locking system, it describes it in the manuel, and there is a switch on it for the glass break sensor on the alarm.

matto, i tried it tonight nothign will happen, they just splice into the power and ground wires for the door locks, so if you remove the alarm, and tape up and make sure there is no exposed wires it should be fine. they splice into them right at the left hand kick panel.

Okay, thanks. Just wanted to make sure I don't kill anything before I take it out.
