Great to see everyone from Portland that was able to come to the track. We ended up with 11 or 12 Pro-3 car running. Ted Jr. had a great drive for the win. He's got talent galore.
For me, it was a good example of being fast at one track does not mean you'll be fast at every track. I've not been to PIR with the chicane for 3 years, and it showed. Most of my Pro-3 competitors have been racing at PIR often and their knowledge of the track showed. I was able to lower my lap times during the weekend, but by the race was still gridded back in the pack. Still, I was looking forward to a fun race, which it was.
Right off the bat, on the start I missed a shift, ended up in 5th gear and watched the pack pull 20 car lengths on me. doh!
I started out having a great 5 lap duel with Mike Olson, also in a 4-door Pro-3 car. He drove great, and I couldn't just drive around him. I started putting moves on him going into braking zones, hoping to force him into a mistake. Finally, going into the Festival Curves, he went in a little too hot and I was able to get by.
Next in my radar where 2 more Pro-3 cars, one white, and one red. I would reel them in a little each lap until with 2 laps to go I was right on their bumpers. I then ran out of talent trying to make a good run through a turn leading onto the backstraight and looped the car off track. doh again! I didn't hit anything, and got the car back on track. The next lap was signaled as the last lap of the race so I took it easy just to finish and get the car back the paddock for my wife to get in the car for her race, which was right after our race.
We race in Seattle this weekend (Sept 30) and I hope my knowledge of Pacific Raceways will make me more competitive!Lance Richert '88 M3, #35 PRO3, i3 etc.

Nice shots from stefan,
Here I am (135) dueling with another Pro-3 car at the Festival Curves. This pass was actually set up back at the final turn leading onto the straight. Mike (130) bobbled at the last turn, and didn't get a good launch off the turn. That allowed me a little extra momentum down the straight to pressure him going into the Festival Curves. That forced Mike to brake late to try to save the position, go a little wide at turn-in, and gave me a small opening to slide by (literaly). It takes a lot of respect between two racers to drive that close on the edge and not take each other out in a crash.Lance Richert '88 M3, #35 PRO3, i3 etc.
