    Rebuilt lsd or used lsd?

I found a used e30 m3 lsd for around $250 plus ship with around 70k on it, also have the option of getting my 373 open diff totally rebuilt with 410's and lsd installed for $650, what to do? Should I be cheap and buy used or spend the extra money on rebuilding? Keep in mind the used lsd will cost $250 plus around $100 to ship, plus getting it installed.
    Suggestions?

the e30 m3 diff should last you for quite a bit longer if it only has 70k miles. youu might want to think of installing it yourself, its not too terribly difficult if you know what you are doing.

$250 for a 70k 4.10 LSD is a very good deal. Get that one, you can swap them in an afternoon. All you need is a jack and some wrenches. If you don't have any tools, you could spend some of the $300 you'll save. The procedure isn't hard and there are even a few write-ups on the internet.

took me about 8 hours to swap mine... but i ran into every problem possible. and that included dropping the old, putting the z3 cover on the 4.10, and installing the 4.10.
re-installation took me like 5 hours because the bolt holes were a bit rusted and it made the reinstall go to hell.

btw, i say go for the 4.10 with 70k.

For about $200 more(used=$250+$100 ship+$100 install) isn't a totally rebuilt diff safer to go with? Plus you never know what you will get when you buy used.

            Longer than a rebuilt diff?

probably not longer than a rebuilt one, but i dont think its very necessary to rebuild at 70k when these things usually last til 200k+ miles. but its all up to you.

Before I swapped for a 4.10, my diff had 225K miles with no problems. I wouldn't expect any trouble with that diff even if have your car for > 100K more miles. A diff with 70K miles won't be something you'd have to replace/rebuild for a LONG time.

I'm going with the rebuilt lsd 410 rather than used, just safer, I know exactly what I'm getting for around $150 more, thanks for the suggestions people.

For the price you're getting on a rebuild, I'd jump at that. Build it to a 4.10, and get a 40-45% lockup rate as opposed to the 25% (new) on the stock 4.10.

I forgot about that, that's another plus for the rebuild, custom lockup, thanks.

Who's rebluiding it with custom lock-up for $650? Shipping that diff would not be $100 more like $30-40 bucks when I shipped one UPS ground.

There are two diffs were talking about here, the used e30 m3 lsd for $250 plus ship and mine that will be rebulit with 410 and lsd installed for $650. Shipping a lsd from Florida to NJ costs more than $30-$40, I looked into it.

Shipping on the diff I bought last July was about $70 from TN to WA, UPS ground insured.
