Problems With E36 M3 Illuminated shift knob

I know that swaping out the stock e30 shift knob to a e36 M3 shift knob is a common thing around here (at least i think so) but has anyone had any troubles with them. I bought my 325i (89) with it already in and it worked fine for about 2-3 months then one day on the highway at night my instrument panel and my shift knob flickered and turned off. never to come back again since then. I wondering if anyone has any experiance with that or knows where to start looking for the problem.

Check the bulb and then check the connections. It's not a very complicated thing so shouldn't take you long to figure out.

Hows it come apart? I havent taken mine apart but the way the housing is with the recessed backlit logo I figured it would have to be an LED.

The wires going into the bottom of the shifter seemed to be the most fragile part.
        Im now E30less.

i've got a e36 M3 knob on mine but isn't illuminated, it's an ugly wood one but it functions way better than my stock e30 rubber knob, and it was free from my buddy

Every bulb in the dash and the knob arent going to burn out at the same time, roll your eyes at yourself.

ive checked the fuse and its good i even pluged a test light to the actual headlight switch and only then did my light thats behind the switch and fog lights come on. might i be off on ground.

ps: alpina slut, i ment that i disconected the shift knob the wires arnt connected anymore.

So the dash lights themselves are the problem not the knob? i.e. the dash lights are off but the knob is disconnected?
If so then try a different headlight switch. IN there is the rhiostat that powers all the dash lights.

Check the fuses. I had a similar problem and it turned out wires had crossed and a fuse had blown.
