You should check out the tax laws in some VA counties. Pretty sure they are specifically designed to discourage auto ownership.

It depends on the condition, i have seen E30s as low as €1,500 in terrible condition. Decent cars start at around €7k-E8K, but they need a lot of work.
Good condition starts at around €12K to €18K, minor work but really good condition.
From €20K to €35K i have seen garage queens, even if they have no options/equipment i have seen one 1986 E30 325i with 57,000 kms and one original owner go for €29,999.
Once the car in Germany reaches 30 years, it received H plates, no taxes and no TÜV and CAT can be removed. If the condition of the car is good with H plate, expect a higher value. Those in bad condition are still going to go for cheap.

Sorry, but that's bullshit. You pay 192€ taxes, you need to have a regular TÜV every two years and have to meet emissions for your car. If your 1987 325i had originally a Cat, you need to meet emissions for a car with cat. If it didn't have one, you don't need to meet the cat emissions, that's all.

If you still think you don't have to get a HU every two years you're in for a bad surprise. ;)
The greatest perk of the "H" in my opinion is that the moment you have it, your old car instantaneously is the greenest car you can have on the road. Goodbye bad stinky Euro 5 cat and particulate filter equipped Diesel, my 43 year old NA diesel Mercedes can get where you can't, namely into the cities with "Umweltzonen" :D
