Flow is definately garbage in my opinion, which is why she always gets her work done at Crown in Greensborro. She definately has connections there and always gets good deals and that is why she is so upset over the bill she got. She was at some dealership near Lake Norman when she got the brake service done. Its somewhat close to Charlotte, but i am uncertain of the name right now.

      Good luck. That dealer blows.

I will most likely suggest your advice to her. Thanks

my buddy who i take my car to told me that you cant resurface rotors for BMW's...i dont remember the reason why, but i think it had something to do with the sensor...btw, this guy has never lied or cheated me on anything...
oh yeah, and its the same thing for VW's...

In Germany they do not resurface rotors! I resurface my BMW rotors myself and never had a problem with them. At the BMW dealerships in Germany they will just stick on new pads and not rsurface or anything!! really, as long as the rotors are not below specs.

Unless you have the old parts there is no way to tell if they are to thin for resurfacing.
They can look fine and need to be replaced.

No shop should play around with brakes, if they are close, they will be replaced.

Why did she go to the dealer? I would NEVER take my car to the dealer unless it was a warranty. You pay more for parts, and labor. Any shop can do brakes, and there has to be a independent BMW shop in the area, take it there.

Brake job F/R for $1100, that sounds right I bet aver half was in parts.

When I do the brakes in the M3 it's usually $500-600 for pads and rotors.

Next time have her pay you to do it!

Dealers follow what BMW says by the book, and according to the factory you never resurface rotors.

Front rotors list for $93.50 each (x2 is $187)
Rear rotors list for $59.75 each (x2 is $119.50)
Front pads list for $97.00 a set
Rear pads list for $80.50 a set
              Sensors are $16.30 each (x2 is $32.60)

NC sales tax is what, 6.5%? So the total for parts is around $550.18. Figure "book time" flat rate of 2.5 hours for the front, 1.5 hours for the rear labor, and at about $140 an hour (and just like surebimmer said), $1100 is an accurate ballpark figure.

If you think that's expensive, I just did front rotors/pads/sensors on a W210 chassis Mercedes AMG E55 and it ran the guy $1150. That's just for the front brakes, that was with a discount, and the guy was happy with the price. Ouch.
