My dad has a '79 MG Midget. Fun car to drive, and easy to work on. Make sure that major parts have been replaced/maintained. My dad's car only has 40k miles, but parts wear out on these things... especially after 30 years.
Lucas electronics are a little shaky, but later cars are more reliable.

I've got one! I have a 1970 MGB-GT. See it here:

I love her. Easy to work on and an almost endless list of aftermarket parts. Fun to drive too. Handles corners REALLY well. Best parts place online is www.mossmotors.com They have EVERYTHING.
How much can you get it for?

Please for the love of all that is good, check every single area for rust.
They're a bit underpowered, but are fun as hell. And the 3 wiper blades
'81 is the best year, the special edition MGB. And yea the chrome bumpers are nice, but alot worse in a crash as you can imagine. If you need any information, my dad has been selling and buying MG's since before I was born. He knows it all.Reminiscing...

And MGB's are a bit problematic, but thats why you look around. I'll ask my dad what to look for specifically. Oh and its definitely a chick magnet. Trust me ;)Reminiscing...

I have an MGA in my garage!
Not put together though. Have the entire shell, which has been sandblasted. The frame, the engine, and every other part in about 10 big boxes. My uncle gave it to my dad for free. It has been sitting for a while, waiting for my dad to start restoring it.
This is what it will look like when done:
Cool eh?

lol Lucas wiring is wierd. For example, all the electrical on one side of the car (lghts, turn signals, reverse light, etc.) is on one fuse while the other side is on another. I have so far had no problems with the wiring, but then again, I re-wired a lot of crap that someone put in. When I got the car, the radio was out it with wire nuts.
