Best/cheapest way to tow a car?

I found a VW rabbit that I want to pick up, but it's not running and it would have to be towed from San Clemente to my house in Palmdale, about a two hour drive w/o traffic. I was looking at renting a tow trailer from U-haul and borrowing a friends truck to do it, but the problem is that I don't have much free time to tow it, so what I was wondering was that does anyone know if there are any companies that could do the towing for lets say, under 150 bucks? If not, and if my best bet is to just tow it myself, I was wondering does anyone in the SoCal Area have a towing trailer that I could borrow so I can save myself about $50?:D I was thinking about using AAA but I have the regular service, and they only tow for free for up to 7 miles :(, does anyone know how much they charge per mile after that?

In my experience its cheaper to Rent a Tow dolly and do it yourself. Ive been pushed around by tow companys and sometimes they bump up their rates really high for trips that long.

In Fl. AAA charges $3 a mile after 5 free with basic mem.
You can upgrade for $70, I think, and get first hundred free.
You can rent tow dolleys cheap and IMO they work well.

If you don't have enough free time to rent a trailer and tow the car home you probably shouldn't buy it.

Well it's just this week I don't really have time because of a hectic work schedule, but I don't want to wait too long because this guy really wants it gone and with his asking price I don't see it lasting past the weekend. I'm going to talk to him tonight and what I'm thinking I'm going to do is paypal him a down payment just so I can pick it up on the weekend.
