Its all about power to weight ratio there you little idiot.

If the VR6 is in a Jetta the e30 will win, Jettas are overweight pigs.

I drove an old GTI with a VR6...and wasn't impressed. Was all loud and torquey, but was like driving a truck for acceleration.

      FWD is the weaksauce too.

I love the VR6 motor, it sounds great, responds well to mods, and is very torquey.

My roommates bone stock 96 GTI

flat torque curves own, would rock out in an early chassis car

BTW, its a mustang dyno, so do your homework before any "those numbers are low" calls

I used to own a '97 Jetta GLX -- 5spd w/ a 12v VR6. I really liked the motor --- it didn't have much towards the top end, but it was very responsive for around-town situations.

And the sound --- ooohhh, the sound --- I loved it. Almost Porsche-esque.

            It was a great motor.

That being said - I'd rather have an E30 325is.

            Oh wait... I do

I was acually thinking about this today...weird. Anyways is this true? I raced my friends A4 2.8 quattro and beat him twice. I would imagine the jetta is around the same speed, but lacking the AWD launch.

Put a VR motor in a Mk 2 GTI, they are quick. Better yet go out and find a 1.8T from a Mk4, they respond much better to mods than a VR will and are cheaper to mod as well.

My buddy's 1.8T Getta( that's right a Getta) is putting down 220 to the wheels with just an intake, chip, and diode. If I had it to do again I might have started with a Vdub, even though they torque steer like a bitch.

If I were to get a GTI it would probly be a Mk 2 with round headlights and the dope looking fender flares. There was an awesome one at UMBC when I was there last semester.
