    s50 block stamp

Ok, I am searching the web as well, but does anyone know if this is a 3.0 blcok number; seems like it should be... the head VIN is for a 325, but it could have been replaced.

    359 61123

    30 6s 2

That is what was stamped on the side of the block... not to mention it came out of a 1995 m3...

No one knows? I can call the dealer today, so at least I can post some useful info for once.

If I remember correctly, its actually on the rear(firewall side) and is pretty much unreadable without pulling the motor.

Vin number should be able to give you details as to what it was.

The engine came out of an m3, and has the ZF transmission attached. The VIN on the head comes up with a 325is... so I am trying to verify the block stamp. The dealer I called did not know I am about to try another, more reliable one.

I checked my PMs what should I look for? :p

Ok, I put a 1993 m50 non vanos 525 on the lift and checked the block stamp. The lower number is 25 6s 2.

I can only imagine it means 2.5 L 6 cylinders (Zylinder) and 2 camshafts.

              My block says 30 6s 2...

Based on assumptions I have an s50 block, would anyone agree or verify?

I'm just stating that my 95 3.0 block has a sequence that can not be deciphered so easily .

Well I was going to post the numbers but since you seem to have it figured out I won't bother .

I spoke ith my good friend at the dealer, he spoke with a BMW rep. The rep said BMW did not use any type of marking... the block for an s50 is the same as an m50, the difference in teh displacemnt comes from the crankshaft... bla bla.

I am going to put anther car on the lift to see if the pattern remains, but Teaguer has a point, the guys at the dealer said there should be no pattern... there were two block manurfactures, however, maybe one was smart enough to mark the blocks and one was not quite so intuitive.
