    Wow, well said, James.

Stu, I've driven an M50 powered IS - but it was kinda bland. Nothing fantastic, and my budget m20 stroker felt quicker. But, that was a non-vanos m50. My dad's e36 has an s50, and it's quite the motor. But, there's just something about that m20 that I love. That awesome valve tick, and the awesome downlow torque. Just puts a smile on my face. :)

Again, don't get me wrong, I'd love to have an s50 or s52 in my car. Hell, a euro s50 would be pretty badass. But, it was a lot easier for me to build up my m20 then to worry about a swap. I needed a motor that I KNEW was good to go for a while.

Someday I'll do a swap, who knows. ;)

Yeah I do. I'm not dissing the power, its a great swap.

I just don't want it, i get more satisfaction out of building the M20 into something it was not supose to be, and when I'm done with that its all about a 3.6/3.8L S38.

I build cars that not everybody else has done, hence the major euro mtechnik 1

as i've said countless times before, I like expensive complicated swaps from hell that will cause me to piss away money. That said I like doing things the harder way to get speed/performance, because in teh end, I have a motor that very few in this country have swapped into an E30, 6 ITB's and all.

If I wanted to be like everybody else I would own a late model, plastic bumpers, mtech2 wheel, IS front lip, and an S50/M50 Swap. Thats just boring to me, because in the end what sets the car apart is its a different color, different wheels, and small things here and there. Yah don't see too many fully rebuilt Mtech1's driving around.

    my

Personally I feel the M5x engines are a lower maintanence engine per power output. Strung out engines do sound better though :D A 260hp M5x is nowhere as strung out as the equivalent M20 (just be ready to keep fooling around with tune or contemplating another rebuild)

yeah, craig (cheades) lives around here and has done the E36M3 swap in his car. it's pretty quick, I followed him up the Mt. Baker Hwy to an autox one year when my car was an automatic, needless to say his car was a bit faster than mine. :D

but I don't think that's the point.. there are plenty of cars that are faster than mine, and plenty that are faster than an S5x swapped E30. what's the point? I built my motor myself, I love the agressive sound it makes, it has plenty of balls and it's a blast to drive. isn't that what matters? I'm sure you feel the same way about your S50, and it's not like I'm drag racing people on the street. ;)

    I'll be honest.

When I have the money, and time, and resources, I'll be getting MM's 3.2 rally pistons, along with ITB's, and all that jazz. I'm gonna build up an M20, totally NA, and have a sweet time with it.

I'll also turbo the motor I have now. Be fun to do both! :D

Oh...how I would love to find that 24v head...it would be beautiful. :)

    Haha... awesome.

Plus... speaking of swapping out motors and the such. My friend with an Alpina B3 (the one who's M3 CSL I was driving) , is building up a 3.1lt stroker (metric Mechanic stroker kit) with 48mm ITB's 302deg shrick cam, Methanol Injection (2 keep intake temps down) , oh and a CF roof, Bootlid and Hood. With KW Coilovers... looking at around 300hp

    Scew the M50/S50 ... M20 FTW.

But then, I'm looking into using a old M50B25 non-vanos building it up 2 3.3lt and putting it into my track car, that I'm starting with soon.

Its because we don't want a motor that EVERYBODY else has done, M50/S50's are boring.

S38B38 for the motherfucking win. I love expensive voodoo motors that will cause me to file for bankruptcy when they throw a rod.
