Replaced the Jeep with an e46

I decided to go ahead and trade in the Jeep Wrangler for a 2001 325Ci. The fact that the tranny is gone in the Jeep kinda hastened my decision lol. I pick it up next week, 325ci, Premium pack, auto, leather, roof, 5 spoke alloys, titanium silver, etc.

Can't wait to see how much money I will save in gas! No more 10mpg for me!!! I'll post pics soon as I get it.

my gf has a 2003 jeep liberty sport... that thing slurps fuel like no other.

we had her moms 2000 e420 (maybe e430? i can't remember benz designations) down here at school for 2 weeks while her dad had her car back at their shop getting fixed. we literally put gas in the benz twice in two weeks and didn't change our driving patterns at all. The jeep gets gassed up every 3 to 4 days probably.

Fortunately, her mom is getting a new car soon so she'll inherit the benz, and we'll throw some nice wheels on there and make it look good - as well as save a ton of money on gas!

How the hell were you getting 10mpg in a wrangler? 4 or 6 cyl version? I got 18-19 mpg when I had an old cherokee with the 4.0 inline six, and I get a decent 15-16 mpg in my 2 1/2 ton brick conversion van with a 350, how do you do 10 mpg?

A Wrangler is worse than a brick aerodynamicaly. 4.0 automatic, dual tops, etc. With top down, or just soft top, you end up getting 10mpg after 31" tires and a small lift. With the hardtop it goes up to about 12.5 mpg highway.

I really like my Wrangler, but not only are they expensive, they guzzle gas, and believe it or not, most parts are more expensive than BMW parts. By a good deal, too. Try $112 each for the 2 O2 sensors it need. 64 k miles, and so far its needed since 50k miles : starter, alternator, battery, fan clutch, waterpump, several electrical relays, fuel pump, u joints, tires, brakes (rear brakes twice), and now a new tranny :)

They are just not practical at all for a daily driver. If I owned it outright, I might look a little differently at it. But when I see myself in a newer e46 that gets 30mpg for less money each month in payment, and than less in fuel and insurance, it looks like a much wiser financial decision.

I will miss offroaing in the Jeep, but I also have a Chevy 2500 HD work truck and a dirt bike, so F*ck I say! Oh, and with my '90 Chevy with the 5.7 I get about 13.5/20mpg! So, yeah, the Jeep just went out to the glue factory.

Mwahaha! My old wrangler took all my money, what a pile that thing was. It was an 87 and I changed every single thing...but the tub. Not because I wanted to...but because it broke. I could understand if I was beating on it, but highway driving sure the heck is not beating it.

As for MPG, it was poor there too. I think I got about 15MPG. I cannot really speak of poor MPG though...lol

I think you'll like the E46 coupe, it's very comfortable and efficient. My '00 328ci gets 29-32mpg highway at 70-80 mph. I've done a few major road trips of 14+ hours per day at 75+ (and I stress the +), and the car just loves it. Very comfortable. There are a few typical problems, such as the door weatherstrips and typical BMW cooling system issues, but other than that the car is solid and dependable.

Buy one, throw big offorad tires on it, and tell me you get better. My friend has a 2000 4 banger, and gets 13mpg now on good days. I actually get a little better with the hardtop on now, in fact I actually got up to 15 tonight, and thats driving a gentle 65mph.

I mean, also, if Jeep parts were cheap, that would help, too. I am not gonna pay $100 for a Jeep part that isn't going to last past 50k miles, when a BMW part is $75 and will last 200k. Loved the Jeep, but done with the expenses involved with owning one.

I brought the 325Ci home today, friggin nice car. I love it. Very smooth, comfortable, and very solid. I am very happy with it, big improvment over my Jeep Wrangler. I liked the Wrangler a lot for what it was, but seeing how its CHEAPER!!! its even nicer.

Why would you say that? The only design flaws I'm aware of with the E46 coupes are the coolant tank (fails around 60-70k) and the felt trim around the doors (falls down at random). Otherwise they should be fine in general.

new cars of all makes (including my brothers E46 from which I have lots of experience) arent designed to last too long beyond warranty without a good amount of problems which require a fair amount of money.
