I never claimed that E30s are perfect. E34s are more complex and thus have more potential for problems, vitial systems or other wise.

    I'm done with this thread.
No I admit that I've heard of people having problems with some of the things on your list. I've never met someone or had one myself but I have heard of them so I won't deny it. But I fail to see how this makes the E34 as bad as you are determined to make it sound.

All I'm trying to tell this man is that if he buys a properly inspected car, he won't have any more or any more expensive problems with it than the E30, on average. Maybe fewer because the E34s can be found newer with lower mileage. I resent the comment about mechanics laughing at E34 reliability when the rest of the automotive world safely admits that the E34, especially a manual 535, is one of the most durable BMWs ever made. Furthermore, every reason that makes the E34 so good are the exact same reasons that make the E30 good. Granted it's more directly related to the E28 in its electronics and interior design, but little changed with the E34, other than making things more solid, quiet and refined.

Delaminating door panels/headliners are something that haunts several more modern BMWs, not just E34s.

I think some of the problems have been blown out of proportion, while they're different issues than what's seen in our cars, E30s obviously have a large list of annoying problems.

So to get this thread back on track... My biggest concern is the Trans Progam issue not all this other stuff you guys are fussing over.

Does anybody have any comment or reinforcement on whether this is most likely just an electronic issue or rather a more serious tranny problem? I realize it could be either but what is more likely? I have read a lot about the Trans Program issue and it seems to me that they are mostly caused by electronic failures.
