Going to file a report to Caltrans for the damage to my car. What's the shortest, most appropriate claim as to why Caltrans should pay for the damages? After reading the fine print, Caltrans will directly handle damage claims that are less than $5000. So I figure I go to the stealer, and get estimates for a new valance, iS lip, new bumperr, plus paint and labor.. heh. Then, I keep the money and do it myself! So what's the most clever way to address my claim? Thanks.

Well, I talked to my lawyer and he suggested to file a damage claim against Caltrans. If they do not respond with my compensation, he would then take action by writing a letter or making a personal phone call.
I have Pre-paid Legal Services. They're great.Last edited by wycoco; 10-24-2006, 03:12 PM.

I think I'm with Mariano on this one. I wouldn't put too much effort into it. I tried to get $$ from the city of San Diego for hitting a pothole that just COMPLETELY destroyed my rt front 18" rim on my Passat. Long, long story, but I got nothing for my damages. The way it was explained to me was that the city did not know about the pothole, so they were not responsible. Had someone called and reported the pothole just a few days earlier then the would have know about it and been responsible for fixing my car.
What I took away from the experience: If I ever find myself in a similar situation, I'll report the pothole, crack, ..whatever, wait a few days THEN report the damage.
