    scan tools..question for techs.......

i am looking into getting a scan tool for work, so that i can get the flag time for turning off the airbag light (almost every car we do), check eng, etc.,( insted of subleting it to the dealers).what have you got? what do you think about it? flexability? ease of use? we do 90% import, and prob. 80% of that being euro. looked at the MAC euro specific one today and can get it at a smoking deal for $800 (reg $1200). i will see snap-on, and matco later in the week and see what they have to offer too.
    thanks,
    greg

At the dealer, we use the GT1. You could get one, but they are around 14k. The one you mentioned is prob good too.

the matco detrrminer(sp) is relly a OTC genisys. SO yes that would be you best bet because you can flash up date from the interweb and get all the other jap and domestic stuff on compact flash cards.

The genisys is waht I am saveing my nickels and pennies for its the best all around system out IMHO.

Apparently the Snap-On Vantage is bad ass. Ive seen it, i know someone with one, but haven't used it myself. Huge database of cars, how to troubleshoot with instructions etc... If i had too much money to spend on a tool like that I'd end up with one of those. They can be had on eBay too for a LOT cheaper.

Oh btw, they're indestructible too. Seriously. Ive heard of some wicked torture tests they were put through and always turned back on. Hucked across shops, ran over, dropped out of moving cars. I wish I had a use for one, I ended up buying a Fluke 88V (Automotive multimeter) :)
