    no start...testing starter question...

Pull one of the e30s out today...starts fine. Pull it out...turn it off. Go to start it again and nothing....

Everything powers up, taped on the starter and it did click a few things. Never engaged tho....

Tried to bypass the solenoid and run 12v right to the starter....it whined a little and then nothing.

This is an 87 325i automatic.

Also tried a different battery...also connected a charger with jumping abilities to the battery....still nothing.

Any other things I can try before trying to pull out the starter? Is there an "easy" way to take out the starter?

    TIA,
    Jake

Hooked up a different battery and we are getting a click when we try to start it. Assuming this is the solenoid is working and pushing out the starter gear to the ring gear but the motor is not engageing. Does this sound right?

you need to make sure you're getting full voltage to the starter. Sounds like your problem could be a bad starter, but also could be a bad connection.

If you can get the starter off, you should be able to have it tested at an auto parts store.
