    Ok so i know that the 325es has more torque and less hp, but why??? arent the engines the same??? whats different o nthe "es" then the "is"??

    thanks guys....

    the 325es is a 2.7 liter engine. But the 325iS is a 2.5 liter with higher compression pistons, etc etc etc.

    They are both M20 engines, however different blocks.

      The "is" is basically the luxory package I believe. Nice leather heated seats, pw windows, etc..... someone else might want to chime in because I'm not an expert. Yet... :twisted:

            Optional-wise they are very much the same. I'm pretty sure the 325es was the first e30 with power everything, the LSD ( however the i has a different ratio ), basketweaves, premium sound, etc etc

                      ... how about the sport suspension, optional LSD, and sport seats? :idea:

                      now Madbimmer:

                      Here's a synopsis. The M20 is kind of a crappy engine to mod without forced induciton. You can spend 5 grand on a stroker and entirely rebuild a motor with much larger displacement, you won't get above 225HP.

                      If you turbo (see what matt325is, et al) have done, you can get figures over 300HP, but you need to plan it right.

                      Without a doubt, get an i or an is if you can. While the eta is a strong motor, a 5200rpm redline, 121HP, and earlier bodystyle are all downsides for me. This applies to the "325" cars too. I won't get started on the "super eta" stuff. You wont find one anyway :)

                      If I were you, I would look for the following cars:

                      1988 325i
                      1988 325is
                      1989 325i
                      1989 325is
                      1990 325i
                      1990 325is
                      1991 325i
                      1991 325is
                      1991 318is

                          M50 or S50

                          M50 = 92-95 3-Series motor (not 318)
                          S50 = 95 M3 motor

                            Both the blocks are the same. The head's are the diffrance. The "e"or "eta" has a longer stroke.
