    Eta Love

Just wasn't sure if people here knew that in '86 the 325E actually won a few race series:

    1986
BMW 325e wins the IMSA Firestone Firehawk Sports class Manufacturer's Championship.
BMW 325e driver Ron Christensen wins the IMSA Firestone Firehawk Sports class Driver's Championship.

On a search, Randy Pobst looks to be a driver. Probably had something to do with it :)

Eta engines suck. The cars still rule. I would venture to guess that the engine isnt totally stock and he is a great driver.
            Im now E30less.

I beg to differ. For some of us, accelleration is not a means to an end. I especially like the eta's ability to conserve fuel on long drives. I might feel differently, though if I didn't have the super eta. At least it's redline is 5500RPM! LOL

Anyway, even the "i" motors are dogs by today's standards. :P

Oh, and cruisin' at 90mph at a chill 3000RPM is pretty sweet, too. Right on the torque curves peak.

I think it's time for an "ETA DRIVERS UNITE" thread!

Lastly, I think fours are really the motor for this car. Drove a '91 318is a few weeks back. Gawd, that car was soooo nicely balanced. Plenty of go, with a truly tossable character. Hmmmm....next car maybe!

Just goes to show that PTG is truly the Shiz - whuppin' ass in an Eta.

I have nothing against Etas, but they are certainly not the first E30 that comes to mind when you think about racing.

I need to take a late 318 out for a spin - keep hearing how cool they are - makes me curious.

Ditto - mine has been a garage queen for a year now - I finally got her out on the road about a month ago, but there are a couple things left to do before I'm ready to take over the world

I will concede that the Eta is a perfect cruising engine, which was its intent. I would not call the 325i engine a "dog" by todays standards. Its output may be a little lower than the medern cars but those cars are bigger and heavier so if you look at the stock 0-60 and 1/4 mile times except for the higher end cars they are still pretty similar.
                              Im now E30less.
