European Car's 951 build up listed the stock weight at 2999lbs... But yeah, good to have that cleared up. Also, the 928 weights varied about 500lbs from the early to the late models, the late models being the heaviest overall.
Basically, Im still sticking to my point that if you do everything right, suspension, brakes, and the turbo system on the motor, it should at least run with a stock 951, if not do much better. The 951 chassis is the same as the 944s aside from a few little differences where they had to cut new holes to fit things like intercoolers. They came with a special suspension package and brakes from the factory, all of which will bolt right up to a regular 944. The only hitch is the motor, and we should all know from the BMW turbo guys that there are a hundred different ways to turbo a motor, and they can ALL work with some imagination.
That said, if I get a Porsche, it's gonna be my first P-car love... the 928. I know much more about those and I think the guys that own them are more similar to the guys that own E30s, E28s and E24... They don't seem to be afraid to tear into their motor in their own garage, or use custom parts that some guy got the itch to build in his basement and sell on the forum. :p
And we all know that 928s are teh sexzorz when compared to 944s :pimp:
Damn Porsche Owners... *rant*

I don't know squat about building a porsche motor but I do know many Porsche owners think they know how to drive the car...oh wait that also goes for Honda, Acura, BMW and many other owners.Leave a comment:

I can pull NA 944's anywhere on the track in my 318is.
Turbo an NA car and you have a shitty underbuilt car with power. after you get a good brake and suspension setup, you'll have lots of $$$ into it.Leave a comment:

That seems heavier than I remember, but also, thats GVW... Thats the max allowable weight on both axles... Not necessarily the weight with like a half tank and a driver. My dad had a few 914s and he is saying that they were around 2300 to 2400lbs. Definitely more with a 6 cylinder though! The GVW on my 2.5 liter Alfa Milano was 3600lbs give or take, and I know for a fact that car didn't weigh anything over 2700lbs stock.Leave a comment:

ok my bad. i called and had my dad look in the garage at the sticker....

w/ the 6?????
still alot heavier than most people think!Leave a comment:

off the top of my head they are stock around 3200 lbs. mine is stored at my parents house or i would go into the garage and look at the sticker. there is not alot to "gut" out of the car for weight. it is a very stiff chassis for a reason. light weight BOLT-ON body parts is about the only way to lighten it up. a 911 late carerra front "beam" will save you about 40lbs and bolts in (alum vs. steel). also the 911 motor weighs more and you add more weight with the dry sump oiling system and tank.Leave a comment:

so true! but in az they are just owned by kids that make them into rigged shit boxes with sun baked interiors, because they cannot afford to buy the parts just to do general maint.Leave a comment:

Eh, by now any "cheap" 914 you find will be pretty light, simply due to the fact that it'll be 85% rust.

914-6 and 914's are ALOT heavier than you think! if you want light weight you need to talk to GT racing, and order: fiberglass bumpers, fiberglass doors, fiberglass hood, fiberglass decklid, then bleed $ to pay for them.
