'is' rear spoiler attachment

I just bought an 'is' rear decklid spoiler for my car in pristine condition and I don't have the holes predrilled in my decklid to attach it - is there a proper way to locate where the holes need to go?

There is a template that you can get from the dealer, there may be someone here with more info on that though, I haven't needed it myself.
