    Double Clutching

How many of you can do it well and do it during daily driving?

I have a 1970 MGB and shifting it is very jumpy. Not only would I like to learn double clutching so I can take turns and such better, but I also hope to get rid of that extreme lurching. I have read articles on the subject and know what to do, but do any of you have any good tips/hints?

Watch "The Fast and the Furious" and try and watch Dominic Torretto, he is a pro at it. And make sure you aren't granny shifting.

    j/k, Andy.

One, figure out if you can use the big-toe/little-toe method or the heel-toe method.

Second, practice whatever method works best to the max. You need to make sure that with whatever you are doing you can shift *normal* well.

      Third, Practice more.

i can do it in both my corrado and the corrolla wagon....

not the e30 tho (its a auto-tragic still)

but its pointless in a modern street transmission for the most part.

thats what synchros are for... the only think i always do is revmatch... so much smoother that way...

i dont think double clutching is gonna take care of the lurching... all it does is match the speeds of the gears in the tranny... i think you need to work on your clutch releases maybe...

can you elaborate more on when it lurches...

his tranny doesnt have synchros bro, so double clutching would fix the lurching

I have to double clutch in my Mercedes since the 3rd gear synchro is shot, but I also do it in the E30 for fun.

In my 318.. downshifting is much smoother if I double clutch.
I usually do it down into third and second.. I like the sound of it.
It wasn't that hard to learn. I still don't always get it quite right.
I tend to not rev it high enough in neutral before I down shift.
Anyhoo.. if I can do it, anybody can do it ;-)

i think my petal setup sucks or something, i can't get heal toeing right. Maybe my feet are too small or something. I can rev match all day though.

Fast and Furious was on last night here in Australia. Well i got a question, double clutching is just for down shifting, am i right ? then why does Dom say to the cop "you weren't double cluthcing like you should've been", they were racing changing up gears, not changing down ?

                              heel-toe does own.
i have a size 13 and i can handle it. i had to remove the plastic piece above the pedals though. that helped with daily driving also, cuz my toes kept getting stuck when releaseing the clutch, and every once in a while the brake.

yea F&F is retarded, doubleclutching is for downshifting.
