    Reserve Fuel Light Question

I did a search and even tried to find info elsewere but cant. here is my deal...
    My 324td has a 60 liter (15.85gal) tank.
I avg. about 10l/100km, so thats like 27MPG.
I need to know how much the reserve is once the light comes on. I usually fill up once the light comes, fear of running out of fuel on the autobahn in a diesel is not only scary but illigal in Germany.

so is it the same as in the US Spec e30s with a 16 gal tank? if so what is that figure? how much do i have in my tank once that light goes off? anything at this point would be good and useful info. thanks guys.

Yes the reserve comes on at the same increment according to a 324d/td service heft I have.

drove my car dry(had no choice, no money) from the mountain. Light came on while leaving the resort and got home, 62miles. when i filled up the tank it was a total of 15.3 gallons I believe the 325 has a 13gallon tank

My E28 and E24 both have 16.6 gal tanks with 2.6 gal reserve... Im just not sure if that means 14 gallons then 2.6 reserve, or 19.2 gallons total, BUT I would bet that its got at least 2 gallons of reserve, if not more.

In my e30 the reserve light comes on at the 10 litre mark. 10l is about 2.5 gallons, so that sounds the same as what the others are saying.

So for your 324td, you should be good for another 100 km.

I dont know the exact capacity, but I have gone 60+ miles in my 318 after the light came on. Roads along the Canadian border at 3 in the morning have few places to stop for gas.....

I had the fuel light on...and I remember my OBC said 36 miles (I know this is different) and I ran out of fuel. :( It sucked the fat one since I coasted into a gas station and the tools closed right as I came in.

They never turned the pumps on until 6am (is was 11pm when I rolled in).

wow. around here gas pumps are always on since i remebered from 10 years ago when i started paying attention. i always took that the reserve was 2 gal...we need a list of years that had different size fuel tanks...

is that 63l with the reserve? i wish my touring had a OBC. i wanna run it as low as i can just to see exactly how much i can get out of a tank but dont want to risk anything.

by the way thanks for the input guys.

My '88 325iS would turn on the light when the OBC read within a few miles of 40 miles left. Once the OBC went to ---- there was roughly 10 miles left before running dry. My current '01 330i follows pretty much the same form except it turns on the light at ~60 miles left on the OBC.
