Paypal/Ebay are out to get me........(long-rantish)

Well, maybe not, but they ARE trying to make my life difficult.

    Here's the story:

I'm trying to save $$$ on Paypal fees- so I have 2 Paypal accounts (this is all perfectly OK and allowed by Paypal). One is a Personal account which does not get charged fees for receiving $$, BUT this type of account cannot accept debit or credit card payments (OR SO I THOUGHT- see below). The other is a "Premier" account which can accept all types of payments, BUT I get charged a fee on all of them- whether or not it's a debit/credit card payment.

So, I had some Ebay auctions ending tonight- I listed the Personal Paypal account as the default but included instructions for buyers to ASK me for a different account if they wanted to send debit or credit card payment. So, the first guy who pays sends a credit card payment to my personal account- and now the Paypal account summary page is telling me I MUST accept the payment by upgrading to a Premier account. I wanted to just "DENY" the payment, but that button is blocked and when you roll the mouse over it, a message pops up that says "EBAY sellers must accept all types of Paypal payments"!!!! WTF!!!!

    GODDAMN THESE GREEDY BASTARDS!!!

I'm OK with paying Paypal fees if someone wants to use a debit or credit card, BUT they are making it REALLY difficult to use my personal (fee-free) account and it's pissing me off.

So, do any of you guys have a good way to do this?? Or do you just pay the fees because it's too much of a PITA otherwise??

OH, and it says on the Paypal page that you can accept a limited number of Debit/Credit card payments send to your personal account- limited to ~5 per month AND they still charge you the fees- so I figured I'd be covered if a couple of buyers made a mistake- but evidently they (Paypal/Ebay) are doing their best to FORCE me to convert my personal account to a premier account!!!

Did I mention that these greedy bastards can suck my left nut????

I don't have a Premier for that reason alone. However, I HAVE declined payments more than once that were sent by credit card, so I'm not sure why you had that issue. Contact them?

Yeah, I emailed them to try to find out what's going on- but apparently it's an Ebay policy that if you accept Paypal payments, you MUST accept ALL types of Paypal payments, including debit/credit card payments.

Here's the info from Paypal's site:

      Auctions & Logos

Can an eBay seller who offers PayPal refuse a PayPal payment made by credit card?

Sellers who offer a PayPal payment option on eBay, and then reject a credit card payment, or other payment types (such as a bank transfer) run the risk of being reported to eBay as a Non-Selling Seller, after which one or more of the following actions may be taken:
      Listing cancellation
Forfeiture of eBay fees on canceled listings
      Limits on account privileges
      Loss of PowerSeller status
      Account suspension
If you sell on eBay using a PayPal Personal account, you can accept PayPal account balances and bank account payments with no additional fees. However, if you receive a credit card payment from an eBay buyer, you need to upgrade to a Premier or Business account.

PayPal Premier and Business account holders are charged a small fee to receive payments. The fee is based on the monthly payment volume. For details, see the fees page.

Additionally, sellers can not communicate to eBay buyers (for example, in an item description) that they only accept, or will not accept, certain forms of PayPal payments.

Violation of this policy can result in the cancellation of the auction. The consequences of refusing to accept a certain type of PayPal payment after an auction ends is stipulated in eBay's Seller Non-Performance located at http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/...rformance.html.

Buyers can also report a seller through this link by selecting 'Report the Seller' in the additional Information section.

Violations of this policy include language such as:
"I do not accept credit card payments."
"I only accept PayPal payments made with account balances or bank account transfers."
"I only accept PayPal if the bid amount is greater than $15.00 USD."
"I only have a Personal PayPal account and only accept those kinds of payments."

A bunch of BS if you ask me.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do right now- 2 people have done the same thing, sent Credit card payments after I (tried) to make it VERY clear to send credit card payments to a different Paypal account.

Ebay/Paypal just make it SO hard for people to offer options when it comes to this- if you offer Paypal on Ebay, then they automatically enable their Checkout system, and then the "Pay Now" button that comes up automatically routes payment to the paypal account you chose when you made the listing. It's not that hard to bypass IF you just bypass the whole checkout thing- but I know how most Ebay users are so I want (and need) to make this as foolproof as possible.

I have been trying to get folks to use one of the 2 different paypal accounts for a while now, but up until now the Premier account was the default account and then I would try to notify people to send non-Credit card payments to my personal account- but that never worked so I ended up paying alot of fees since they all went to the premier account. Guess that's just how it's gonna have to be...... :(

I just hate how everything on the interweb ends up catering to the people who can't or won't read and follow directions, it just gets dumbed-down.

There is a Powerseller here in Knoxville that deals old MG parts on Ebay and he said that he only accepts money orders to avoid the Ebay fees and he said it's never caused a problem for him.

wow. I guess that is new policy then, b/c I've declined straight credit card payments and haven't gotten into any hassles over it. I hate that crap. IF that's the case now I may have to accept only Money Orders from now on then. I'll be damned if I'm going to allow them to take more of my money.

PAYPAL??/ We use paypal for 60-70% of our transactions. This numer is slowly dropping to remove paypal all together and just use our merchant account. If I recall there is a place in the option to allow different payment types.

Here's how bad paypal is? I have sold a lot of items for friends and family members on Ebay. here are two problems I ahve had with paypal and Ebay.

                        Problem #1

Sold 42" plasma tv shipped it out fast and insured. 44 days later(paypal has a 45 day window) I get a claim that the Tv is broken, so my account is basically 2100.00 negative as paypal held the fund. I email the buyer and told the TV is broke. This is 4 weeks after he recieved it. I had insurance so I file a claim and let paypal know the insurance is covering the damage. Cool so I thought??? Paypal tells the seller to send it back!!! So the BAD this was 4years ago and I still have no TV, No funds and the buyer recieved the insurance.

                        Problem #2

Almost exactly as above I sold a home audio amp and was told it was bad. Paypal lets the seller know a refund will be issued upon tracking of the amp back to us. Well guess what no amp and the guy still got his money.

Hey thanks for letting me vent. BE very careful of Paypal.

                        Thanks,

                        Tyler

Oh boy, it just gets better....

I got an email from one of the buyers- he said that he followed the "cancel payment" instructions I sent him from the Paypal website, but he could not get it to work. SOooo, he called Paypal and they told him that I had to be the one to refuse the payment- he could not do it. Sooo, I called Paypal and they first told me that since I had more than $500 in my personal Paypal account I had to upgrade it to Premier (which is BS), then they told me that I normally could receive 5 Credit card payments to my personal account per year, but I was over my limit so I had no choice but to upgrade to Premier (also 100% BS- it shows on my profile that I have 5 CC payments left- I have never used this function). Then they told me that I had no choice but to upgrade my account by accepting the payment, then I could refund the payment and ask them to resend to my other account. I told them I did not want to do this because I wanted to have the option of a Personal Paypal account and this would make it a PRemier account from now on. She apologized and said that's my only option.

I politely asked for her supervisor. After explaining the situation (AGAIN), she said I could accept the payments (which would upgrade my account) then refund them- ask the sellers to resubmit to my other account. After this was done, she would "downgrade" my account back to Personal (as a courtesy to me- a valued Paypal customer!....). So, this is what I'm going to do- sort of. I'm actually just gonna accept the payments, accept the fees and keep the $$$. Then call Paypal back and have them downgrade my account back to Personal.

Basically, if you receive Paypal credit card or debit card payments to your Personal account for an Ebay auction, you are 100% screwed here. The situation is ONLY applicable for Ebay auction payments- if you sell something and the person sends a CC payment to your personal account, you have the option to "DENY" the payment and ask them to pay another way. BUT, Ebay and Paypal have conspired to keep the fat bald white man (ME) down!!!

Now, why do I dread the phone call I get to make to have them Downgrade my account??? I just know it's gonna be a fiasco.

EBAY sellers read this and beware.
