    The Audi R8

I gotta say I normally think Audi cars look "plain". I know it's not new, "news" but what are your opinions? I think it looks like the first Audi I'd buy.

The microsite uses of flash, and modeling quite well. Watch "Dimension R8".

Since 1981, Audi Sport has stood for “Vorsprung durch Technik” in motorsport. The 2023 programme consists of marathon off-road rallying, including the Dakar Rally, and customer racing.

Audi has incorporated the name and the genes of the five-time Le Mans winner, the Audi R8, into a spectacular sports car. Three years after the unveiling of the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, the production version will be making its debut at the Paris Motor Show in the guise of the new Audi R8 mid-engined sports model. It is a fascinating driving machine and the sporty pinnacle of the Audi brand. The mid-mounted 420 bhp V8 FSI engine, quattro permanent four-wheel drive and Audi Space Frame aluminium body form the basis for truly outstanding driving dynamics. The Audi R8 will be available to order from 28 September 2006; first deliveries will be made in the first half of 2007.

Your everyday S4s look far from boring IMO.

Looks more like an "exotic" car than a daily driver's sports car to me

that's the real question there as to wether or not you will actually see any of them.

            ^ Fake R8

            Early version

            Successful version

            ^ Real R8

They should slap on a full width windshield, detune the engine and suspension, add a passenger seat and sell the real deal, instead of a castrated Gallardo.

Fun, yes; practical, feasible, or even slightly realistic ... hell no

It's supposed to compete with one of the 911s, so in that same price ballpark..

People that are in this market aren't looking for practicality and the thought of purchasing one is most likely well within their reach. You must take into account the target market here. They are not out buying Kia's or driving clapped out e30's like mine.

It's a terribly ugly car. Only the middle one in that photo post was even worth a couple seconds of my attention.

                      (my opinion, of course)

My comment was referring to the idea of selling the LMP900 R8, not the Halo car Audi plans to build, which will arguably take away market share from Porsche (which owns 27% of VAG) and Lamborghini. I highly doubt many people would tolerate a detuned Le Mans prototype on the street. (hats off to anyone insane enough to do it) Modern day 'sports/super cars' require practicality and luxury if they command an $80k price tag

I understand that Audi wants to create a more sporting image for their cars, but doing it at the expense of it's more exclusive marques is beyond me.

It's going to be Porsche vs. Audi, which is going to be just like the Phaeton flop when VW tried to compete against itself (in the form of Audi).

Thank God. Audis, from what my immediate family has experienced, have some quality issues... Expensive VWs, thats Audi.

It looks ok but for 140,000 dollars...no thanks. And it weighs 3439 dry....

I've always liked the look of the last model S4.

                              Last I saw there isn't a Gallardo engine in it... RS4 V8 I think.
